January 19th with Hayley Long

Hayley Long 3Many thanks to the fabulous Hayley Long for making it such a fun and informative afternoon. Hayley talked about her creative process in ‘What’s Up With Jody Barton?’ and had lots of pertinent insights into writing for teen fiction as well as some hilarious stories.  The picture to the left is a chart of her ideas in the initial stages of ‘What’s Up With Jody Barton?’ Lots has changed since, including the title!

The aspiring authors who read extracts from their work were Alex Ivey and Belona Greenwood. Here’s a bit about them.

Alex Ivey moved from the US to the UK in 1999 and has worked in older people’s services since 2005. A graduate of the MA in Creative Writing (Prose Fiction) at UEA, Alex’s first novel, Kingdoms, was longlisted for the Mslexia Women’s Novel Competition in 2012. Her agent is Laetitia Rutherford at Watson Little Ltd.

Belona Greenwood is a former journalist who escaped to Norwich where she did an MA in Scriptwriting at the University of East Anglia. She has won an Escalator award for creative non-fiction, is a winner of the Decibel Penguin prize for life-writing. Associate playwright with Chalk Circle Theatre Company, she writes plays for children and adults and has had work performed at the Norfolk and Norwich Festival, as well as in other regional venues.
